American Licorice Company first developed a rope candy in 1955 and today’s imagination-inspiring candy is still prepared in the unique batch process that has been used since the early twentieth century. The first "Ropes" candy was sold unwrapped and was only made using our black licorice formula. This rope shaped candy became very popular in both candy shops and convenience stores in the late 1950s and throughout the 1960s.

In 1970 the Super Ropes® brand that we know and love today was introduced. It was an immediate hit with both consumers and retailers because the

wrapped version of the candy was fresher and easier to carry. Super Ropes found an instant home in concession stands at all types of venues from ballparks and amusement parks to roller skating rinks.

Super Ropes candy has been successful for over 50 years because the candy is super fun to eat and even more fun to play with. Super Ropes has helped form countless memorable moments and has been featured in many TV shows and movies. The brand's most famous movie role was as the favorite snack of Garth in the "Wayne's World" movie series.
